Well, now that Tom Delay's leadership of the House GOP has been assured by removing the very rules they put in 11 years ago, the Texas Republican Party has asserted it's control over the Federal Government. And what are the goals of the Texas GOP?
A good evaluation of the 2000 Texas GOP platform
is here. From that article:
These are not the words of sane people. This is not "reform," this is not "common sense," and this is not "restraining government growth." This is plain and simple madness and the people behind it have real influence.
I just downloaded a copy of the
2004 Texas Republican Party platform. The bit about the Gold standard apparently isn't in there - I guess someone pointed out just how incredibly stupid that one was. And they're no longer publicly calling for the invasion of Panama - I guess Iraq is more interesting. But they still want the IRS abolished. The US out of the UN. Homosexuals should be barred from not only marrying, but also should have no rights to adoption or even unsupervised visitation of *their own children*. And, of course, they call for a Constitutional Amendment to "protect marriage" - this from the state with the highest divorce rate in the nation.
How many of you who voted for Bush really want this to be the law of the land? Having second thoughts?
