Voter intimidation is alive and well in Florida
Long-time get out the vote campaigns are being targeted by Jeb's State Police to supress the black vote in Florida, according to Bob Herbert [Free Registration required]
Support get out the vote campaigns, ESPECIALLY in Florida. Get people to understand just how important voting is!
On a related note, an article in yesterday's Plain Dealer tracked the percentage of actual voters compared to adult residents county-by-county in Ohio. Very sad - some counties in Appalachia have 42% of the eligible votes who have NEVER voted. Even in Cuyahoga county, which has some strong get-out-the-vote programs, less than 70% of adults have ever voted.
I don't get that. Especially since you can serve on a jury even if you don't vote.
According to Mr. Egan, "People who have voted by absentee ballot for years are refusing to allow campaign workers to come to their homes. And volunteers who have participated for years in assisting people, particularly the elderly or handicapped, are scared and don't want to risk a criminal investigation."
