Kerry has been attacked for not being religious enough. This man is a lifelong Catholic and was an altar boy. But the right's opinions of him are shown by this exchange:
Speaking at the
New North Side Baptist Church in St. Louis, Kerry said:
"The Scriptures say, what does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?" Kerry said. "When we look at what is happening in America today, where are the works of compassion?"
This is a very Catholic quote, and one which bothers Pentacostals and Fundamentalists. They believe that faith alone will save your soul, while Catholics believe that good works are as important as faith. The anti-catholic ideas run just under the surface of this administration, and it does't take much digging to bring them up. A telling point, when Bush campaign Spokesman Steve Schmidt responded that the statement...
was beyond the bounds of acceptable discourse and a sad exploitation of Scripture for a political attack.
The Bush campaign, upset at the use of Scripture.
JaBbA loves irony.
