As a former full-time journalist, I see the problem is this, my friend:
Most writers are, as we see in the mediamatters.org piece in fact, "liberal-to-moderate." We generally vote democrat -- saw a poll once that showed most writers are registered Democrat -- we support a majority of the liberal/progressive agenda while remainingf at least fiscally conservative (which is where the "moderate" tag really comes into play) and would rather see a democrat in the white house -- especially after the attacks we've seen BushCo. make on our first, fourth and fifth amendment rights.
But what very few ever say is that editors and publishers are, for the most part, conservative. They vote republican, support the conservative agenda, etc.
And the editors and publishers are the ones setting the table, calling the shots -- and changing the stories that the liberal/moderate writers are writing to lean them more towards the right.
Frankly, the only writers I trust these days are the ones I see on truthout, since they, for the most part, are unfiltered by right-leaning editors.
