Uhhhhhhh, didn't Al gore lose because of problematic voting in the state of Florida?
You know like voter roll wipes, and a court battle, and a funny supreme court decision?
Just mentioning.

Would it have mattered if he had clearly distinguished himself from Bush? If Nader's supporters had seen that Gore would have been a much more progressive administration, he would have had enough votes that a recount wouldn't have been an issue -- and maybe he could have won his home state of Tennessee, or our wonderful, supposedly industrial/union state of Ohio.
It was Gore's election to lose, the point of the Florida debacle is that Bush needed to steal it EVEN AFTER Gore completely screwed up in the campaign.
