The Supreme Court, in it's infinite
Bush Idealouge Right Wing Agenda Conspiracy Idiocy wisdom, justupheld laws mandating
anti-pornography filters in public libraries.
Now, I'm an Internet Corporate Data Security guy. I help with things like Anti-Spam and Web filters on my corporate network. At home, I have installed a proxy that filters out inappropriate content for my children.
But that's for workplace rules. And I have the right to make decisions about my own children's protection.
But I do NOT want the government deciding for me what is appropriate and what is not. And adults need information that is often blocked, sometimes by accident and sometimes because of the agenda of the filtering company. Adults should NOT have to ask to have specific sites unblocked.
Where the hell are we going????? This is AMERICA, folks. Take some personal responsibility, and tell the government to stick to protecting us from Radicals with explosives, instead of what old men with narrow minds see as moral degradation!
UPDATE:
My sister's a librarian. Not just any old librarian - she holds a Master's Degree in Library Science from UM. She splits her time between "regular" reference librarian work and All Things Internet. Pretty ironic actually - I'm tech, she's content. Anyway, she forwarded the
ALA's Response to me.
