According to a report on
NPR this morning, the U.S. cost to occupy Iraq has reached $4 Billion per month. That's not a typo. Four Billion Per Month.
The increase from original estimates is mostly in contracts to privatefirms. and $1.7 Billion of that -- EVERY MONTH -- goes to Halliburton.
Halliburton originally won a bid to provide logistical support to the troops, and then was handed a no-bid contract to help with oil field rehabilitation. Thatno-bid contract will make them $700 Million. AND the contract states that expensesare paid by the government, so it's cost + expenses!
The problem is that Halliburton had problems getting people to volunteer to goover to Iraq, since not being military, they can't order their people to go. So soldiers would come back from patrols and find that there was no fresh food, fresh water, no way to call home.
So not only are they getting rich, they're not doing the job they were paid to do.
And just in case you don't know, who headed up Halliburton before he got his current job?
Vice President Dick Cheney.
