Oh, yeah...and trying to get a little sleep.
Life has this funny way of intruding on hobbies
Blogs, coding, and many other things have taken a back seat the last few weeks. So I've got all kinds of topics that need some posting...I'll try to get to some of it soon.
Here's a few quickies:
Watch out for new Phishing scams
targeting online retailers - experts think the Phishing Groups are about to expand their focus from just eBay/Paypal and banks. Not that they've slowed down at all - PG#20 especially, targeting Regions Bank and Comerica, has been really active.
Also, someone just registered Suntrustbankonlinepassword.com, suntrustbankonlinebanking.com, and suntrustbanksinc.com. If you have a Suntrust account, watch out for new Phishing schemes, coming soon to an email newr you.
Take a look at the beta of
Serendipity 0.8 very soon - the code is really solid, and the features are pulling Serendipity away from the blogging pack. Highly recommended. (This blog uses the 0.8-CVS code).
If you use Firefox, make sure you get the
1.0.1 updates. This is a security fix addressing an unusual, but important, security issue. If you're using Firefox 1.0, an upgrade arrow should appear next to the throbber. Yes, all software has issues, and some MS apologists are crowing about this one. What they don't tell you is, of course, that the issue was found, disclosed and addressed with a patch in about a day or two.
Oh, and on that subject - Black Tuesday this month came and went with no Microsoft patches. Does this mean that we are getting to the point where all the issues in MS software have been addressed? Hardly. It's more likely that they just haven't figured out a way to fix the issues they
have been notified about. (EEye for a time was listing the date and severity of disclosures to Microsoft, without actually revealing the problems. Clearly, someone got uncomfortable with this.)
More to come...
