I've started using
Sharp Reader for my RSS Feed reading. I used NewsMonster for a long time, but I've always had some problems with it.
NewsMonster pros:
- Cross-platform
- Based on Gecko/Mozilla, so I can have multiple profiles
- I can open news articles in background tabs and read them later
Cons:
- I'm having some problems with feeds coming in cleanly.
- doesn't take advantage of the OS platform
SharpReader advantages:
- seems to handle all different feeds cleanly
- stable
- works with JaBbA's Hut
- Runs in the background, and when it finds new entries, pops up a little window above the system tray for about 5 seconds announcing the new entry. It's unobtrusive, and very very cool
Cons:
- Requires .NET
- shows only article headlines, or one article at a time. Some kinds of feeds never show whole article
- when opening a article, takes over whatever browser window is closest to the front , so it overlays the last thing you were looking at. No option for opening in new tab
But that notification thingie is too cool to not use. JaBbA says check it out.
