I've spent the morning cleaning up some nasty browser hijacks.
They came from a forwarded joke. Avoid anything from "funforwards.com" if you want to keep control of your computer. The jokes may be fun, but having to ask for help to uninfect your computer is not.
If you're already a victim, download the free for personal use spyware scanning tool
AdAware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ or
SpyBot Search & Destroy at http://www.safer-networking.org.
For reference, here are some other tools I recommend that are free for Personal Use:
Bit Defender Anti-Virus
AVG Anti-Virus
Spam Bayes for Bayesian Spam Filtering on Windows/Outlook (Not Outlook Express)
Mail Washer -- This one I haven't personally used, but have heard it works. It has some nice features - you can use the free one for one POP account, if you want webmail, IMAP or multiple accounts you'll have to but the $29.95 version.
Remember, if you're using these at a company, you have to buy the commercial versions. That keeps it free for home use.
If you know of others, add a comment...
