
The Mars Rover is wheels down on the surface as of about 1am EST this morning.
This is the REAL touchdown. Risks were high until now - now it's time for the science to start.
How cool is this? I love what one of the project guys said this morning -- "I got to drive a great sports car. But I'm only the valet - now I hand the keys over to the owner, the scientists".
This is a major accomplishment, witness the fate of the previous martian lander and the Beagle 2. If they can land Opportunity in 10 days, that would be gravy....
