In some ways this week, I was hooked into the security world. In others, I just didn't have the time to keep on top of my usual reading. So it was only this morning that I found out about the
attacks on SCO.

As always, DDoS attacks are the internet equivalent to a drive-by firebombing. They can do a lot of damage in a short time, but don't actually accomplish anything except damage, both intended and "collateral". But the other point here is that SCO's focus on litigation rather than technology is showing. They have suffered these attacks multiple times, but rather than putting contingency plans in place to allow their employees to continue to work in the case of DDoS, they simply say to the community "oh, look at poor us, we are such victims".
As Groklaw points out...is there any other company whose announcement of a DDoS attack would result in widespread skepticism about the veracity of the report until it is
verified by a trusted third party?
