They're arguing about the wrong things
A new article in InfoWorld addresses the issue of the operating system on ATMs. A quote from All All, editor of ATMmarketplace.com, said:There wasn't really a security issue at all in the OS/2 world, but there is in the Windows world
So when Diebold was crowing about their use of XP embedded, NCR objected, saying they had a better idea. I was hoping they'd say they're using some single-purpose OS, but no. Their better idea?
Use the full-blown, off-the-shelf, Windows XP Pro.
They claim that way they'll get the patches sooner.
How often did they need to patch for security reasons on the old OS/2 based ATMs? Doesn't that tell them something?
