CAUTION: New Trojan via Email

From InfoSec News and eWeek:

A New trojan called Sysbug is beginning to spread quickly. It comes from james2003@hotmail.com with a subject "Re[2]: Mary."

Here's the kicker. The trojan is zipped and password protected, and the password is in the email. This keeps server-based anti-virus from being able to stop it. Most Anti-Virus programs assume that password protected zip files are legitimate email.

Look for variants very soon that change the from address and subject line.

Good call, but if you had a current antivirus tool, opening the zip would trigger the on-demand scanning capability. No?

Yes, but server (or perimiter) based anti-virus won't catch it. Some people have come to rely on viruses being caught before they ever get to the desktop - this is an example why a belt-and-suspenders approach is best.
